Which company registration document is required?

A certificate of incorporation and a current commercial register extract are not interchangeable. One may record the formation of a company, while another provides a register entry at a particular date. The recipient may request a specific document, a recent extract or a certified copy, so confirm the source record before commissioning its translation.

For UK companies, GOV.UK explains the certificate of incorporation and its role in confirming registration. If your submission also requires articles of association, a change-of-name certificate or other corporate records, send them with the registration document so we can quote for the complete set.

Consistent company names and legal terminology

The translation needs to retain the registered company name, registration number and relevant dates. Legal forms and registry terminology require care: a foreign corporate form should not simply be renamed as a UK company type. Where needed, an explanatory rendering can help the recipient understand the source without changing its meaning.

Please provide established English or target-language versions of trading names, together with any glossary used in related agreements. Registered names, addresses and authorised signatory details should remain consistent across the documents being submitted.

Certified translation and overseas legalisation

A bank, tender authority or registry may request a certified translation, a sworn translation or legalised documents. Send the recipient’s exact instructions, including which original or copy must be authenticated. We will confirm the translation service and discuss any separate steps relevant to your document.

Our legalised translation page explains the different options. The GOV.UK legalisation guidance describes the UK process. An apostille concerns a signature or seal; it is not a translation or a substitute for supplying the company record requested by the recipient.

A quotation for your corporate document set

We can review scans or electronic documents and confirm the price before beginning. Where the registration record supports a transaction, you may also need contract translation. Tell us which documents belong together so the company terminology can be used consistently throughout the project.

Frequently asked questions

Can you translate a Companies House certificate of incorporation?

Yes. Send the complete certificate, target language and recipient’s requirements. We can also quote for associated company documents supplied with it.

Is a translated register extract proof of current company status?

The translation reflects the source extract and its date. It does not update the register or independently verify the company’s current status. Ask the recipient how recent the source record must be.

Do company documents need an apostille before translation?

The order and scope depend on the destination requirements. Confirm whether the original, a certified copy or the translation requires legalisation, and include any existing apostille with your documents.
